In this article, I will explain how this benefit works, who is entitled to it and what you need to do to request it.

What is the Social Electricity Tariff?

The Social Tariff is a Federal Government program that offers discounts on electricity bills to low-income families.

The value of the savings can reach up to 65%, depending on the household’s monthly consumption.

The objective of the program is to help those who need it most to maintain access to electricity with greater peace of mind, without the risk of accumulating debt.

Who can receive the discount?

You may be entitled to the benefit if you meet one of the following criteria:

How to get a discount on your electricity bill

The process is simple, free and can be done with your own documents.

See the step by step:

  1. Check if you are registered with CadÚnico
    • If you are not already there, go to the nearest CRAS with your personal documents and those of everyone in your family.
  2. Have your Social Identification Number (NIS) updated
    • The NIS is essential for the concessionaire to recognize your right to the benefit.
  3. Contact your power company
    • Call or go to the in-person service and request inclusion in the Social Tariff.
    • Take the following documents:
      • RG and CPF;
      • NIS (or BPC number);
      • Installation number (found on your electricity bill).
  4. Follow the application of the discount
    • After registration is validated, the discount will be applied to future invoices.

The reduction in bill value will depend on your monthly consumption. See how discounts work:
